Denver Metro Water Recovery Effluent Study

Metro Water Recovery (Metro) is exploring whether treated wastewater from the Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility at 6450 York Street in Denver can serve as a reliable source of thermal energy for heating and cooling. By capturing and reusing this existing energy, Metro and the City have an opportunity to reduce carbon emissions, improve winter discharge temperatures before water reaches the Platte River, and support cleaner, more sustainable community growth. It is estimated that there is the Equivalent of 200 megawatts worth of power sitting in Metro’s Effluent.

This study will review not only technical aspects of using the heat from the effluent but also review the business case of the best way to provide this energy and potential off-takers.
